COMING SOON: DEAD PRETTY

Horror has always played with the idea of beauty. Preserving it. Destroying it. Punishing it. Turning it monstrous. The genre returns to these images over and over: the safe, beautiful home turned threat; the woman in the mirror; the virginal final girl; the ageing face as abject; the outsider marked as excessive or other; the scarred, disabled, or altered body framed as spectacle; beauty that’s racialised, exoticised, withheld or denied altogether. The beauty of something so vast it tips over into terror. Beauty as an algorithm. Beauty as a currency. As a trap. A disciplinary force. A fantasy. A weapon.

This is TNHC's first full-length book, a collection of 25 illustrated essays exploring beauty in the horror genre.
